Wang Chen is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice spans video art, conceptual photography, and small-scale installation. Her work is deeply rooted in family history and personal memory, investigating the complexities of the female body, libido, and the transformative—often disciplining—milestones of pregnancy and motherhood.
As a first-generation migrant to Australia, Chen also examines her East Asian identity and the fragmented emotions of the diasporic experience. Her work seeks to capture universal moments of vulnerability, creating a visceral dialogue between the private body and the public gaze. Recently, her practice has evolved to explore the intersection of mental health and materiality, particularly focusing on postpartum trauma and medical intervention.
